My beautiful 1 1/2-year-old Samsung fridge broke. First, we thought just the freezer went out when my daughter went to grab some ice cream and found it in a liquid state. Then slowly the fridge got up to a warm 78 degrees. I've been troubleshooting with Samsung so we'll see what happens, but here is the debate. Home warranty vs setting money aside in a rainy day/warm ice cream fund. A home warranty can run you $400-$600 a year when you start adding on things like the appliances and pool/spa coverage. I have been pretty happy with mine, as they've fixed other things around my house that have broken over the years. I am just up for my annual renewal and have been doing my annual debate on it. So, you ask, do you have coverage on your warm fridge? Nope. When I renewed my warranty last year I didn't add it because it was covered under the manufacturer's warranty and forgot to add it after the year was up. I am hopeful that it is a part that actually is covered for 5 years, but we'll see. So do you have a home warranty?
